‘Argo’ Leads 2013 Critics Choice Award Winners
January, 11 2013        Posted By Veronique        No Comments »

Mere hours after the Oscar nominations, the Broadcast Film Critics Association have announced the winners of the 18th annual Critics’ Choice Movie Awards, where — like the Oscars — Steven Spielberg’s “Lincoln” led with the most nominations going in.

And while “Lincoln” did just fine, taking home best actor, best original screenplay and best original score honors, it lost out on the big two prizes to Ben Affleck’s “Argo,” which won picture and director (coming after Affleck’s snub in the latter category with Oscar earlier today).

While those were the only two awards for “Argo,” “Silver Linings Playbook” led all winners with 4 awards, though notably 3 of them came thanks to the unnecessary new “comedy” categories, where it won best comedy, best comedy actor (Bradley Cooper) and best actress (Jennifer Lawrence). Lawrence — while losing best “overall” actress to Jessica Chastain — also won the best action actress prize for “The Hunger Games.”

The “Carnivale” alum has booked a multiple-episode arc in Season 2 of the FX anthology.

Clea Duvall is headed to Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk’s American Horror Story asylum.

The actress, who starred on the short-lived HBO drama Carnivale, has booked a multiple-episode role on the rebooted second season of American Horror Story, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

Set at an East Coast asylum for the criminally insane, the upcoming season revolves around Jessica Lange’s new character — a nun — and her boss at the institution, played by James Cromwell.

Details on Duvall’s role, like many others for the new round of Horror Story, are being kept under wraps but she’s expected to share scenes opposite returning cast member Sarah Paulson.

Duvall, whose breakout role came in 1999′s lesbian cult fave But I’m a Cheerleader, joins a cast that includes Chris Zylka, Joseph Fiennes, Chloe Sevigny, The Voice’s Adam Levine, Mark Consuelos and newcomer Lizzie Brochere round out the cast. Other returning cast members set to play new roles include Zachary Quinto, Evan Peters and Lily Rabe.

The casting comes a day after the freshman run tied with Mad Men for a leading 17 Emmy nominations, including mentions for Lange and Season 1 stars Connie Britton, Denis O’Hare and Frances Conroy. Paulson also picked up a mention for her role in HBO’s telepic Game Change.

Duvall is repped by Gersh and Framework Entertainment.

TV Line first reported the news.

Season 2 returns in the fall on FX.

Ben Affleck’s ‘Argo’ Release Moves Into Heart of Awards Season
April, 10 2012        Posted By Veronique        No Comments »

Warner Bros. relocates “Argo” from Sept. 14 to Oct. 12; the spot was previously occupied by Ryan Gosling-Emma Stone-Sean Penn action pic “Gangster Squad,” which will get a new fall date.

Ben Affleck’s Argo — about the rescue of six U.S. diplomats during the 1979 Iranian Hostage Crisis through a clever ruse — is shaping up to be one of the fall season’s first studio awards hopefuls.

Warner Bros. is so keen on the film after strong test screenings that it is moving Argo’s release from Sept 14 to Oct. 12, positioning it closer to the heart of awards season.

Argo, which Affleck directed and stars in, now occupies the date held by another high-profile Warners title — The Gangster Squad. Warners has moved Gangster Squad off of that weekend and will release the pic between September and December (it could get Argo’s original Sept. 14 date).

Directed by Ruben Fleischer, Gangster Squad also has awards potential, though it is more commerical in scope. Both it and Argo could easily show up at the Toronto International Film Festival in September, a popular launching pad for awards titles and movies opening soon after the festival.

Gangster Squad traces the Los Angeles Police Department’s battle to keep East Coast gangsters out of the city in the 1940s and ’50s.

Produced by Affleck, George Clooney and Grant Heslov, Argo is Affleck’s follow-up to The Town and Gone Baby Gone, which likewise opened in the fall. Argo also stars Bryan Cranston, Clea DuVall, John Goodman and Kyle Chandler.

Argo details how the Canadian and U.S. governments teamed to rescue six diplomats at their embassy in Tehran by convincing the Iranian government that the group of six were only in the country to scout for a film. Chris Terrior wrote the script based on a 2007 article in Wired.

Ben Affleck’s ‘Argo’ Lands A Release Date
October, 02 2011        Posted By Veronique        No Comments »

The Ben Affleck-directed “Argo” will be released on September 14, 2012, Warner Bros. has announced.

The Iran hostage crisis drama—which focuses on a less-publicized incident in 1979 in which six Americans were given refuge in the home of the Canadian ambassador to Iran after the storming of the U.S. Embassy in Tehran by militants—is being produced by George Clooney and Grant Heslov. The ensemble cast stars Affleck alongside Alan Arkin, Bryan Cranston and John Goodman.

The release time-frame given for “Argo” mirrors that used by the studio to release Affleck’s highly-acclaimed directorial debut, “The Town,” and the film will be released on the same weekend as the studio is planning to drop “Resident Alien 5.”

“Argo” also costars Kerry Bishe, Kyle Chandler, Rory Cochrane, Christopher Denham, Tate Donovan, Clea DuVall, Victor Garber, Zeljko Ivanek, Richard Kind, Scoot McNairy, Chris Messina, Michael Parks and Taylor Schilling.
